Rockdale Forest Location & Marker Policy

The Rockdale Forest is a living balsam forest growing on our farm in Jonesport, Maine.

Each tree planted becomes part of that forest.

What this page explains

This page explains how the Rockdale Forest is organized, what Forest Markers represent, and how planting locations are managed over time.

Rockdale Forest FAQ — quick answers on registration, codes, groves, and dedications.

The Rockdale Forest is divided into natural planting areas called Forest Groves.

Each Forest Grove represents a section of the farm where balsam trees are planted and managed together as part of the growing forest.

As the forest expands, additional Forest Groves may be added.

Forest Markers

Each planted tree has a Forest Marker—a named place in the forest story. Your marker is identified everywhere by a single Forest Marker code (for example RF-2026-0001-B). The code and the marker are the same thing in our system:that code is how we point to your tree in search, in emails, and in the web address for your dedication. When you see the code, you're looking at that tree's marker.

Each dedication is also associated with a marker's place on the Rockdale Forest map.

A Forest Marker represents the general planting area within a Forest Grove.

Important

Forest Markers represent the general planting area within a Forest Grove — not the exact GPS location of an individual tree.

Forest Markers help visitors explore the forest while allowing the trees themselves to grow naturally within each grove.

Why Forest Markers Are Used

Trees on the farm are planted in rows and clusters depending on soil conditions, spacing, and seasonal planting schedules.

For this reason, Forest Markers indicate the approximate area where a tree is growing, rather than a precise planting coordinate.

This approach allows the forest to grow naturally while still providing a meaningful reference location.

How the Forest Grows

The Rockdale Forest grows over time as new trees are planted on the farm.

As the forest expands:

  • new Forest Groves may be created
  • additional Forest Markers may be added

Existing dedications remain associated with their Forest Grove and Forest Marker.

What the public dedication page shows

Each Forest Marker has a public dedication page—a shareable view of that tree's dedication, reached at a web address that includes your Forest Marker code (for example /rockdale-forest/dedication/RF-2026-0001-B). That page is the lasting reference visitors see when they open your marker from search, a link, or the forest browse list.

A public dedication page may include:

  • the person being recognized
  • the planting date
  • the current age of the tree
  • the Forest Grove where the tree is growing

These pages provide a lasting reference within the Rockdale Forest.

Separate from that: recipients who register their tree also have a tree hub (Forest Marker page) for their own use—QR codes, invites, and settings—at /rockdale-forest/tree/ plus their marker code. The hub helps you manage your tree; the public dedication page is what you share with others.

Planting & Forest Management

Trees are planted during scheduled planting periods on the farm.

The planting date shown on a dedication page reflects when the tree was planted or added to the planting schedule.

The Rockdale Forest is an actively managed farm forest. Planting locations may be adjusted as needed for forest health, spacing, and long-term sustainability.

Dedications

Dedications are displayed publicly on the public dedication page for each Forest Marker unless privacy is requested during registration.

Forest Marker Availability

Available Forest Markers represent open planting references within a Forest Grove.

Once selected and confirmed during checkout (or assigned during placement after registration), the Forest Marker becomes associated with that dedication.

You can search the Rockdale Forest by:

  • the name of the person recognized
  • the Forest Marker code

You'll find your Forest Marker code (e.g. RF-2026-0001-B) in your order confirmation email or in the registration email we send to the recipient. The last letter identifies the tree type: B = Balsam fir, W = White pine.

Program Purpose

The Rockdale Forest program allows customers to recognize people who matter to them while helping grow a balsam forest that continues the tradition of handcrafted Rockdale wreaths.

Guest book on dedication pages

If you leave a message in a tree’s guest book on a dedication page, we store the name and message you provide, the tree’s Forest Marker code, and the date of your submission. This information is displayed on that tree’s public dedication page.

We keep guest book entries with the tree unless the tree owner removes them or the tree or associated account is deleted. We do not use guest book entries for marketing. If you want a message you submitted removed or changed, contact us and we’ll work with you to update or remove it.
